Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau: 170 Km
We spend time every year researching roads in order to provide motorcyclists with new and better touring routes, and today’s motorcycle ride to Mai Chau is an example.
At 8:30 a.m., depart from the western part of Hanoi. After 45 minutes of riding, we will be on a rustic country road passing through some rural villages nestled between hills and rice fields. Lunch is in Yen Lac – Hoa Binh province, and the afternoon ride promises to be one of the best motorbike tours in North Vietnam, with beautiful views of mountains, rivers, and cute houses on stilts. We’ll arrive in Mai Chau Valley at 5:00 p.m. Stay at a Thai family’s house.
Day 2: Mai Chau – Phu Yen: 150 Km
Breakfast is served at 8:00 a.m. It’s a simple and relaxing riding day, so after breakfast, we can take it easy with a short walk around the village to learn more about the fascinating daily lives of the Thai people. After saying our goodbyes to the hosts, we continue our Northern Vietnam motorcycle tour to Moc Chau, exiting the valley by riding up and up to higher lands, where we will see more Mong villages. When we get close to the Moc Chau plateau, we’ll take a turn to a small quiet road called Hua Tat pass, which is an old French-built road with a great view of the mountains and a great motorcycle ride.
After lunch in Moc Chau, we’ll ride our bikes all the way down to the Da River Lake, where we’ll cross the river to Phu Yen. We will have a beautiful ride along the Da river before arriving in Phu Yen town, which could be the highlight of this Northwest Vietnam motorbike tour. The ride is reminiscent of a motorcycle tour along the coasts of Central and South Vietnam. We’ll end the day at 4:30 p.m. at the hotel in the small town of Phu Yen.
Day 3: Phu Yen – Mu Cang Chai – Than Uyen: 210 Km
Breakfast is served at 7:30 a.m. with “Pho.” We leave around 8:00 a.m. for the ride. Another highlight of our motorbike tour in North Vietnam will be crossing some long, winding mountain passes that offer views of the imposing mountains with terrace fields. We will make numerous photo stops and visits to the H’mong, Thai, and Dzao people. We’ll arrive in Than Uyen around 5:00 p.m. Dinner and a hotel stay
Day 4: Than Uyen – Sapa: 110 Km
The motorbike ride from Than Uyen to Sapa is mostly on sealed roads, but it provides breathtaking views of the mountains. The first half of the ride is up and down hilly roads through large, green tea fields. The other half is all up and up to around 1600 meters, where we call the town in the clouds – Sapa. Sapa is where we’ll have lunch. After checking into the hotel, we’ll take another short motorcycle tour through the Muong Hoa Valley, one of the most beautiful valleys in North Vietnam, where tourists usually walk and hike through to visit various ethnic villages and photograph the imposing terrace fields. We will return to Sapa town at 5:00 pm.
Day 5: Sapa – Thac Ba Lake: 220 Km
It’s a long day’s ride! This Sapa motorbike ride to Thac Ba lake is lengthy, and there is no way to avoid the 40 kilometers of highway No 70.
The day begins at 8:00 a.m. We will take a small mountain road just after Sapa town to avoid the touristy main road to Sapa. This ride is about 30 kilometers long and takes you through some H’mong and red Dzao villages, providing excellent opportunities for photographs of scenic terrace paddy fields.
After the mountain road ride, we’ll arrive in Lao Cai town, where we’ll have some delicious local coffee and see the Chinese border. The ride after that is on a winding mountain road, but it may be busier, so we should pay more attention to the road for about an hour before turning back to back-roads for another enjoyable motorbike ride to Thac Ba lake. We’ll arrive at the lake around 4:00 p.m. If time allows, we can take a quick boat ride around the lake.
Day 6: Thac Ba Lake – Hanoi: 180 Km
We promise to take you on a safe and fun road that is far away from the busy and noisy highway. In addition, based on your request, we can offer a short offroad motorbike ride through green tea plantation, which is short but promises to be one of the best offroad motorcycle rides in Vietnam. The last 15 kilometers of the day are the most difficult, as we return to Hanoi and join the crazy, busy, and amusing local traffic, riding slowly to float with other local scooters and motorbikes back to the hotel. At around 4:00 p.m., the enjoyable Vietnam motorcycle tour to comes to an end.
